Having been in work for 14 years Michelle had to step back from work through illness. She was at a low point in her life when she was introduced to the Bridge team, having been out of work for a year.
‘’Caroline at Bridge Northumberland offered me a lot of support and encouragement and introduced me to Sheena my Bridge Worker. Sheena was understanding of my feelings and gave me hope, offering me support and re-training ideas. Leanne and Lisa offered training and volunteering opportunities. Although COVID 19 hindered the process, the team were in constant contact with me.’’
Michelle initially needed help in rebuilding her confidence and belief in herself and others. She also needed help retraining to move into a different work sector with gaps in IT skills.
What difference did Bridge make?
She was given motivation, encouragement and positivity by Sheena to believe in herself, her great work experience and existing skills.
Her goal was to start work again and re-build confidence. To continue to develop in workplace, learning new skills and establishing positive relationships with a team.
Michelle was offered training, support and volunteering opportunities through the programme. She’d last had a job interview in 1986 so was also supported with job application and interview techniques. She received an IT digital assessment and advice from our partners at BRIC.
Sheena said of her progress:
“Michelle has worked so hard to move on in her life after a very stressful time. She approached all opportunities and suggestions for re-training that we offered with an open and receptive mind and attitude. I am so happy she is now in work and enjoying it.”
Michelle is now in work, having accepted a job over the summer and has begun working for a charity in Northumberland.
‘’I cannot thank them enough for their thoughtful, understanding and supportive approach. It is because of their dedication and supportive approach that I am in a better place and can move forward.’’
